塞尔曼的兄弟要去伊拉克作战，帮弟妹照顾侄子的重担自然就落到了他的身上。为了保持家庭生活的正常运转，塞尔曼不得不接受了一份在他看来很具羞辱性的工作——穿上巨大的蓝色套装，打扮成一个吉祥物的模样。。20世纪40年代，地处南方的徐家川。富家少爷福贵（陈创 饰）自幼顽劣成性，不思上进。这样一个纨绔子弟偏偏娶到了貌美贤淑的米行老板女儿陈家珍（刘敏涛 饰）做媳妇，实实羡煞旁人。只是虽然家境殷实、父母康健、妻子贤惠，福贵却丝毫不知珍惜。在骗子龙二爷的引诱之下，福贵沉湎赌博，最终输掉家产和祖屋，气死父亲（李丁 饰），打跑怀孕的媳妇，一夜变成了穷光蛋。家珍不离不弃，带着女儿凤霞回来和福贵继续过日子。内战、解放、土改……在接下来的几十年岁月里，各种磨难交替加诸福贵一家人的身上，死亡不期而至，痛苦如影随形。早已痛改前非的福贵只能笑中带泪，默默品味着生活中的苦辣酸甜…… 本片根据余华小说《活着》改编。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
