巴西海岸救生员多纳托（Wagner Moura 饰）以海为家。某天当两个德国游客意外被暗流卷入后，多纳托成功救出其中一个叫康拉德（Clemens Schick 饰）的男子，康拉德最好的朋友却不幸葬身海底。在沿洋流寻找尸体的过程中多纳托和康拉德产生好感，两人最终离开巴西前往德国。多纳托开始尝试陆地生活，直到弟弟艾尔顿（Jesuíta Barbosa 饰）长大成人，飞往柏林愤怒的质问哥哥为什么不告而别。可是艾尔顿很快也开始被异域的生活吸引...... 巴西导演卡里姆·埃诺兹曾以变性题材的《妖姬莎塔》入围2002年戛纳主竞赛单元，《未来海岸》是其个人第五部作品。该片也是巴西和德国的第一部合拍片，入围第64届柏林电影节主竞赛单元。电影采用明确的三段式结构探讨主角从拉美漂流到欧洲的生活状态和身份课题。。The film is based loosely around events in December 1995 that culminated in the murders of three drug dealers in Rettendon, Essex, UK.
