方世玉（张卫健 饰）出生在清朝末年的广东，自小就顽皮机敏，而且在母亲苗翠花的调教下，更是练得一身好武功。世玉好胜顽劣，经常在外闯祸，搞得全城满目疮痍，经常得由苗翠花帮助解围。父亲方德虽然知道苗翠花母子两虽然经常闯祸，但其实为人行侠仗义，也就责罚一下了事。 一日，世玉与新来的洪熙官（樊少皇 饰）因误会大打出手。方德觉得自己真的没有能力管教好世玉，于是送儿子前往杭州投考雷老虎办的通天书院读书，因为这个书院与朝廷关系密切，日后容易走上仕途。岂料考试期间，世玉顽性不改，与女扮男装前来考试的严咏春（李婷宜 饰）成了斗气冤家，更当众揭穿了她的身份。随后，世玉遭到了咏春的情人、雷老虎的侄儿雷人王的报复，被取消考试资格。世玉为了父亲，再次投考通天书院，岂料方德竟被雷老虎取笑他家境不入流，不让世玉入学。世玉于是怒砸了通天书院的牌匾，震怒了雷老虎。其后世玉入读其爹兴办的琼花书院，与冤家洪熙官成了同窗。 正当世玉在琼花书院安心读书时，同窗胡惠乾（郑国霖 饰）因为父亲病重急需用钱，无奈之下收受了雷人王的好处，将恶作剧嫁祸给世玉。惠乾之后良心发现，供出了雷人王才是幕后黑手。于是，世玉和雷家的恩怨纠葛由此展开了。。Gunasingam，一个热爱家庭的农民，来自一个小镇，尽管他被许多人误解，但他尽力保持他的大家庭团结。。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
